Brief
InUse-Reuse is a Brixton-based company that is partnered with local councils & wood makers to enable local street markets pallets and wood waste to be sent back to suppliers, recycled or converted into beautiful pieces of furniture.
We were approached by them to design an app that would make their current business model faster, easier and more approachable to users; helping businesses throughout London to have an easy way to organise and manage pallet collections, and grant consumers access to high quality, customisable, upcycled furniture.
Project goals
Make it simple and to the point so that it allows business owners to organise and request collection of their pallets in their location
Have an appealing and aesthetic design that allows consumers to customise high-quality, environmentally conscious furniture as much as possible.
Bring that to life in just three-weeks time.
Solution
B2B and B2C in the same platform
We allowed both parts of the value chain to have a place within the same app. Upon opening the app (and before signing in) you get to choose whether you want to access the Shopping or the Pick-up side of it, and you can easily switch between both sides from a quick swipe of the menu.
Main B2B screen
Users can swipe between the 3 different status of their collections:
-
Requested. Collection form has been filled out and sent, but hasn’t yet been approved by a member of IURU.
-
Scheduled. Collection has been approved and assigned a date and time for pick-up.
-
History. A place where you can review all of your previous completed collections.
Request collection
To request a collection of pallets (and other wood waste), business owners can do so by filling out a simple form that includes the following:
-
Location. We ask for a specific address, and then allow users to place their pin on a map for more precise pick-up.
-
Contact details. A name and phone number will do. Users can save these as default and they’ll be prepopulated the next time they fill out a form.
-
Image upload. To avoid misleads, the user requesting the collection will need to send proof of the material that needs to be picked up.
-
Item count. This is the way users can estimate their compensation, letting us know what they have ready for pick-up. This will be validated by a third party upon collection.
-
Pick-up window. Users can define the times a week when they’re available for collection– even blocking out complete days. These usually coincide with the business hours.
Main B2C screen
We crafted a visually attractive home screen with imagery of our furniture and a focus on our two main collections for easy finding. We put the number of pallets collected (and transformed into furniture) front and center, since our research showed that a vast majority would pay more for a product that’s environmentally conscious, or at least, being environmentally friendly can be the deciding factor for most people when it comes to deciding which product to buy.
Product page
Each product has a badge letting users know how many pallets were “Reclaimed, Recycled and Reloved” when building said piece.
Customisation
The product page allows users to do a mix and match of all the features to get the piece that perfectly matches their needs: size (predefined), material, colour, pattern and varnish / finish. At the same time, you’ll see the price react to the features selected. We’ve also included a “save for later” button in case the user is not sure of making the purchase just yet, they can always come back to it when they’re ready.
Save for later
If you’ve spent time customising your product but are not sure of making the purchase just yet, there’s no need to buy immediately, you can always save for later and come back to it when you’re ready.
I would like to thank and congratulate you all on putting this together. [...] The design and functionality are impressive.
